The Competitive Person's Guide To 24 Hours In Las Vegas

Competitive? Love a challenge? Travelling with a group? Las Vegas, Nevada is one of the fastest growing cities in America, and believe it or not, most of the residents don’t spend their leisure time partying hard on The Strip. They leave that to the tourists. So what do the residents do to entertain themselves in the middle of the desert?

You may not realize this, but Las Vegas has more to offer than crazy day parties by the pool and elaborate night clubs. Those activities are fun to enjoy, in moderation of course. After traveling to Vegas so many times (at least 100,) I was beginning to search for something else to do beyond the obvious. I have a competitive side to me, so I started to discover awesome places to visit that would both entertain and challenge me.

After some trial and error, I have compiled a list of 8 things you can do in 24 hours! Many people schedule their trips to Vegas for just a weekend, so I wanted to make sure you could fit everything in a day.

Starting in the lower right hand corner, your journey will take you counter-clockwise.

1. AXE MONKEYS

Your journey starts here! In this unique facility, you get to throw axes at targets and learn techniques from professionals. Who among you will have the best aim? (They also have what’s called a “Rage Room” where you can let out your aggression and just destroy a bunch of stuff!)

2. TOP GOLF

$30+/hour

Many people have played golf, but have you ever done it “Vegas-style?” Top golf is more than a typical driving range. It features pools, bars, private cabanas, and much more. Make a contest out of it, and see which player among you gets the best score.

3. HEADZUP ARCHERY

Now this was a first for me. I’ve done archery before (years ago at a summer camp) but archery “tag?” That sounds dangerous to say the least. It’s actually pretty safe, but you will definitely break a sweat. You are divided into two teams and it is essentially the same rules as dodge ball. I absolutely loved it, and it got rather intense towards the end. Even if you don’t know the other people you are playing against, it quickly gets very fun and competitive!

4. HEADZUP ESCAPE ROOM

Escape rooms are great for competitive people who like to exercise their brains rather than their muscles. This particular escape room was one of the best looking ones I have ever been in! I won’t spoil it, but compared to other escape rooms, the attention to detail is definitely obvious. I did the Secrets Of The Master room, and I will be back soon to try the others.

5. SAW ESCAPE ROOM

In terms of aesthetics, this is THE best looking escape room I have ever been in. If you have ever seen the frightening movies of the Saw franchise, you will be familiar with the story behind this one. Here’s a tip; if it’s within your budget, try to get a private escape room experience rather than general admission. With so many other strangers going through the escape room with you, it’s harder to truly enjoy each room it actually (in my particular situation) slows you down. I would describe this escape room as more of an interactive haunted house, but definitely still a must-see.

6. O’SHEA’S in the Linq Hotel

Beer pong can bring out the competitor in us all. There are several places to go but one place in particular is located on The Strip at the Linq Hotel. The beer is fairly cheap here, and there are several tables so you can usually start your game without waiting at all. Who has the best aim?

7. FUN DUNGEON in the Excalibur Hotel

Who doesn’t have fun at an arcade? No matter your age, you will have a fun time here challenging your friends. I love that there are 15 carnival midway games here as well as standard arcade games you will surely be familiar with. The last time I went, we won a lot of carnival prizes and decided to give them away to random kids in the arcade. The excited looks on their faces…you would have though I was Santa Claus! It was a heartwarming moment for sure 🙂

8. E SPORTS ARENA in the Luxor Hotel

Now for the finale! Walking in here was nostalgia-overload. (You can walk here directly from the previous activity, the fun dungeon in The Excalibur Hotel.) I love the mix of new games and old that I grew up on. Because of the wide variety, this is a perfect place to go with a group of friends who may have different tastes. Inside, there are VIP lounges, a bar, a gamer-inspired menu, and a broadcast center. Additionally there are tournaments held weekly. You can play solo or against your friends.

By the end of this, hopefully you’ve at least won at SOMEthing. But regardless, these activities offer something for everyone. You can have a great time in Vegas without getting wasted…or you can just get wasted right after this! Your choice 🙂
