The Best Place To Hike In Arizona?
So I did something a little different for my birthday. Typically, I’ll be on a 3 day party binge in Vegas or perhaps an exhilarating trip to Thailand. But instead of that, I opted for a rewarding Arizona hike!
This year I had planned on travelling to the beautiful Anguilla for the first time.
But we all know limited our travel options have been recently.
So, I had to be creative.
On a whim, the day of my birthday, we decided to take a road trip to Arizona and go on a lovely hike! I thought that would be a great way to satisfy my travel bug, and get some much needed fresh air without being around crowds of people. I wasn’t immediately sure if this was one of the best places to hike in Arizona, but the search results looked promising, so we decided the day before to just go with it.
From Las Vegas, we drove to Flagstaff, Arizona where we would spend the night. I thought it was best to start our hike/walk as early as possible the next day to secure a parking spot and beat the sun.
I have always loved road trips. It gives me a chance to catch up on new music releases and is the perfect place to day dream. I especially appreciate watching the changing foliage outside. When you start in Las Vegas, for example, you have nothing but stark desert surrounding you with no real obvious signs of life. As you trek further and further to Arizona, small dry-looking bushes start to sprout up, along with interesting rock formations particularly around the Kingman, Arizona area. And before you know it, you’re surrounded beautiful, lush forests in Williams, Arizona!
This hike took place in the Sedona Hiking Trails which is located in Red Rock State Park. We parked off Highway 89A at the West Fork of Oak Creek Trailhead.
The following pictures will show what I encountered on my beautiful hike. As always, the pictures do not accurately convey the beauty I was surrounded with. Add to that, being stuck inside during quarantine denying yourself fresh air and true nature. (Well, nature maintained by the government in a semi-controlled way for human consumption.)

So what would I do differently? Not much actually! We were very well prepared with lots of water, for us and our dog. We ate and went to the bathroom beforehand and we got there at a good time, around 8am which gave us a good four hours to get a lot of walking in before the sun was at it’s strongest.
My shoes were probably my only regret. They were Nikes that I quite liked, and the water and mud pretty much ruined them. Because of the amount of creeks you have to cross over, I would recommend boots or any other type of water proof shoe. It is also important that your shoes have a lot of traction, because there are a lot of unexpected slippery portions.
What I liked most about this hike was that it really felt like you were deep in the wilderness. After the first portion with the man-made bridge and informative displays, the path is not always clear. There are very discreet arrows here and there, but for the most part, you feel like you never know what you will find around the corner!
