Finding an eatery that has never let you down is RARE. On my fifth visit to Creme De La Crepe, I have to say I am still impressed. That is a lot coming from me. I’m the type of person that always finds something wrong with whatever person, place, or thing I happen to be experiencing at the time. It’s nauseating, but a part of my personality I have to come to accept. This is why I love coming here, because it’s been proven that I won’t be disappointed.

Cafe Latte

Located in Downtown Long Beach, Creme De La Crepe is in the heart of this laid back, coastal city. I was in the area because I planned on playing Spike Ball (randomly my new favorite sport and the only athletic thing I’m mildly good at) later on, but I knew I should fuel up before hand. This restaurant has an indoor and outdoor section, and we decided to eat inside that day. It was already busy in there, but the tables are far enough apart where you wouldn’t feel claustrophobic. The restaurant is lit by natural light flowing through the big windows, and there are comfy couches in the corner, giving the whole place a nice lounge-y feel. The service was very warm. We were seated promptly, and the server talked to us, not at us. The servers move quickly here, but you don’t feel as if you are being rushed to eat and leave.

Tartine Crepe

I ordered the “Make Your Own Crepe” ($13.45 for all the options) and chose prosciutto for the meat, brie for the cheese, spinach for the vegetable, and dill & lemon for the sauce. Random, I know. Looking back, I should have chose a different cheese because brie just was not a good fit. The star of the show was THE SAUCE. I would buy that in a bottle asap. It was rich and tangy, and I had never tasted anything like it before. The buckwheat crepe that they offer is great for the savory side of the crepe menu. This combination of items I chose would likely taste odd in a standard sweet crepe. My boyfriend, Rob, ordered the Tartine ($7.95), a sweet crepe, which included strawberries, strawberry jam, and whipped cream. He also added Nutella, which I think is a must for any sweet crepe. Some may think it is hard to mess up a crepe. It seems like a simple dish to make, but you’d be surprised how many subpar crepes I have consumed. This is not my area of expertise, but I think it has to do with fresh ingredients, and an excellent crepe batter. In addition to that, we each ordered a Cafe Latte ($4 each), which was lovely.

Create Your Own Savory Crepe

Would I visit again? Of course! It’s a pleasant cafe that prides itself on excellent service and high-quality ingredients. That’s the type of place I think we all can appreciate.
